Studying in a mainstream school should be a fast-track way to attain Chinese language fluency. But, as this article explains, non-Chinese speaking families face many obstacles when trying to navigate the local school system.

Her plan was derailed by a lack of clear information about their school choices and negative messaging from some teachers. Incredibly, when she tried to send her child to a tuition centre to boost his grades, some tuition centres wouldn’t accept him, claiming his grades were not high enough for them to accept him....
